June 26, 1996 - On this day it was announced that Van Halen
were working with David Lee Roth after parting ways with Sammy Hagar. Unfortunately,
at that time the VHND was still in its infancy and archives of all the articles weren't
kept.
I ran with the headline "Pigs Fly", because after the bitter Van Halen / David Lee
Roth split in 1985, the chances of the two parties working together again was
extremely remote.
Below is a copy of the press statement released by SRO Management and printed here at
18:30 California time.
SRO Management has announced that Van Halen is in the studio working with original
lead singer David Lee Roth. Their collaboration will be included on the band's upcoming
Warner Bros. Records Greatest Hits collection, scheduled for release this fall.
It has also been announced that Sammy Hagar, Van Halen's vocalist since 1986, is no
longer with the group. The band is currently considering a replacement.
