Jason Becker / Steve Vai / Hot Rod Update
February 7, 2001 -
Jason Becker's web site has been updated with
some good news. Finally, after a delay of almost two years, a tentative date has been
set for the re-release of Jason's Perspective album - April 24, 2001.
Perspective was first released in 1995, and is now out of print. In August
1999 I reported that the album would be re-released by Warner Bros. The plan was
to re-release the album with a new cover and a brand new bonus track written by
Jason and performed by Eddie Van Halen. I'm not really sure what happened, but the
project never eventuated. Jason's web site will hopefully have more details
in the near future.
While on the subject of Jason, a Jason Becker tribute album is currently being
put together by Lion Music.
The album will feature artists such as Marty Friedman (performing Black Stallion Jam), Anders
Johansson (Primal), Paul Gilbert (Hawking), Stormwind (A Lil' Ain't Enough),
Carina Alfie (Becker Ola), Phantom Blue (Baby's On Fire), Torben Enevoldsen (Altitudes),
Phi Ansari Yaan-Zek (Air), Eric Zimmermann/Matt Bissonette/Ray Luzier (Rain), Rolf Munkes
(The Dogtown Shuffle), Alex Masi/Lars Eric Mattsson/Kelly Keeling (Tell The Truth),
Mark Boals (Hammerhead Shark), Sultans Of String
(Dweller In The Cellar), Patrick Rondat/Stuart Smith/Jesse Bradman/James Byrd (Outro Jam), Tommy
Denander (Desert Island), Chris Sterberl (Opus Pocus), Terry Syerk (Temple of the Absurd),
David Martone (Higher), Jeff Scheetz (Sensible Shoes), Slav Simanic (Speed Metal Symphony),
Mike Campese (The Concerto), Neal Nagaoka (Images), Eric Sands (Mandy's Throbbing Little Heart),
Jeff Kollman/Vinnie Moore/Chris Poland/Jeff Watson (A Jam For Jason),
Gerhard Pichler/Joe Lynn Turner/Ted Poley/Terry Brock/Jonathan Mover/Paul Morris (Drop In The Bucket),
and more!
All profits from the album will be donated to Jason Becker. The musicians are donating
their time and talent for no payment.
Another phenominal guitarist who was once a major collaborator with David Lee Roth is
of course Steve Vai. Vai is currently auctioning his 1992 Harley Davidson Ultra Classic
Electra Glide FLHTC Dresser motorcycle on eBay. A percentage
of the proceeds will go to the Steve's Make A Noise Foundation, a non-profit charity established
to provide musical instruments, music education and musical culture to young musicians who cannot
afford to provide these things for themselves.
The winning bidder gets the bike, plus a white Ibanez Jem 555 guitar from Steve's collection,
autographed by the man himself!

Check out the DLR Army site for a brand new interview
with Steve Vai. In fact, it's so new, they haven't finished transcribing it yet! ;)
Finally for today, some disappointing auction news. Remember late last year when
the hotrod from the Hot For Teacher video was auctioned at
David Lee Roth's official web site? The auction
closed with a high bid of US$40,500. Unfortunately, the winner of the auction bailed, so
the owners are still looking for a serious buyer. The car will be re-auctioned soon.

Dec 31, 2000 - 2000: The Year In Review
2000 has come and gone, and I don't have to tell you that it was probably
the most frustrating year ever in the life of Van Halen fans. "No news is
good news" got old real fast.
