Sammy Hagar is still talkin’ ‘bout Van Halen, Van Halen still ain’t talkin’ ‘bout Sammy.
During his recent visit to Eddie Trunk’s “Trunk Nation” radio show, Hagar revealed that he reached out to Alex Van Halen last month but to no avail.
“This is the first time I’ve ever told anyone this. I reached out to Al on his birthday [on May 8th],” said Hagar. “I sent him a nice text, an e-mail and a phone message saying, ‘Hey it’s Sammy here, miss ya buddy, hope you’re doin’ good, happy birthday and if you ever wanna get together and talk, be buddies, be friends here’s my e-mail, here’s my text and here’s my house phone number.’ I [also] said , ‘How’s Ed doin’? I hope he’s healthy and give him my love.’”
Alex’s response, according to Hagar? “Nothin…Nothin! I guess no waters went under that bridge,” said Hagar. “I went and looked at the bridge and it was dry! [laughs].”
Hagar also revealed he invited David Lee Roth to take part in his upcoming High Tide Beach Party & Car Show on October 6th at Huntington Beach, California.
“[Dave’s] guy said, ‘Oh. Sounds interesting, we’ll run it past Dave’,” said Hagar, who heard nothing from Roth or Roth’s camp since. “Radio silence,” Hagar said.
Along with promoting his upcoming festival in October Hagar commented on the recent passing of Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul, how The Red Rocker is still rocking at 70 going on 71 and that he and his band The Circle (including Michael Anthony – Bass, Jason Bonham – Drums, and Vic Johnson – Guitar) have been working on a new concept album for the past year with a working title of “Hey, Hey”.
“I’ll talk to you about this one when it’s closer,” said Hagar. “I don’t wanna try to hype people on it yet ‘cuz it ain’t comin’ out yet but it’s the best record I’ve made in my life.”
