Wolfgang Van Halen hasn’t released his debut studio album yet but he’s already got himself one fan – Sammy Hagar.
Wolfgang recently had a pleasant exchange with Hagar on Instagram regarding Wolfgang’s long-awaited solo album. It began when Wolfgang posted a response to the question of whether he views has father’s legacy/reputation as a gift or a curse. Wolfgang said, “That’s a great question. It’s really equally both. Being who I am, I think people at the least will be interested in what my work will sound like, which is very nice. But on the other hand if it’s not exactly what they want to hear or if I don’t try to sound ‘Van Halen’y’ enough for them they’ll hate me and won’t give me the time of day. I’m fully prepared for a wave of hate when my music releases because it won’t be what people think it’ll be. I’m not trying to be my father, I’m trying to be me.”
Soon after Hagar posted: “Wolfie that’s a great answer. And the only way you will ever be happy and satisfied is doing your own thing the way you hear it in your head and feel it in your heart! You inherited genetically enough talent for 10 lifetimes, use it the way you want. PS: I’ve heard a couple snippets and they are bad fucking ass!! Hope I run into you someplace once we all get out of prison ha ha. Stay safe, love to your mom & dad.”
Here’s What Wolfgang posted in response: “Thanks so much for the kind words, Sam! Can’t wait for you to hear it. Much love to you and yours.”
UPDATE: Sammy said he’s heard “snippets” of Wolf’s music. Of course, this could mean that he’s only heard the snippets that have been posted to social media, like we all have. However, we think it’s possible that he’s heard much more than that, as we’ve already spoken to someone in his camp who has heard a lot more than snippets. And that person told us they were totally blown away! And since that person’s heard some, perhaps Sam and Michael Anthony have to.
Whatever the case, we’ll all hear the album in time. And we think when it comes out, the rock world will be pretty interested to hear the results!
