If there’s anything that can lift spirits up and bring people together it’s music. Nobody knows that more than Wolfgang Van Halen.
“I think music is a beautiful thing,” said Wolfgang Van Halen during a recent interview with KaaosTV. “It’s a universal language. You don’t need to know how to speak it in order to enjoy it. It’s a really important thing that everyone should partake in.”
Wolfgang was responding to the question of how important music has been to him following the passing of his father Edward and the COVID-19 pandemic. He said if he’s not writing music he’s listening to it and it doesn’t matter what kind of music it is.
“If there’s one thing I don’t like in music is elitism,” he said. “There’s something good to be found in everything so blocking yourself off like that, you’re kind of doing yourself a disservice because you can definitely find something to enjoy other than what you’re comfortable with.”
Wolfgang said among his favorite artists are Foo Fighters, Nine Inch Nails, Jimmy Eat World, AC/DC, Tool and Alice in Chains.
“Kind of an amalgamation of all those bands kind of swirling in my head give me inspiration,” said Wolfgang, who also cited the German band The Intersphere as a favorite recently discovered rock band.
Wolfgang said that while he enjoys listening to music through streaming services he also makes an effort to purchase a copy.
“Considering that my music is being released on all these streaming platforms I wanted to familiarize myself with it,” he said. “But I also – anytime I find something I enjoy I make sure to purchase it on iTunes or buy a vinyl [copy] of it or something.”
The debut Mammoth WVH album is due out June 11th. You can pre-order your copy now through the official Mammoth WVH website.
So far four new songs have been released – “Distance”, “You’re To Blame”, “Don’t Back Down” (below) and, most recently, “Think It Over”.
With Wolfgang writing new music often he said to expect a follow up to the debut Mammoth WVH much sooner than later.
“It won’t take nearly as long to get the second album out [as it did with the first],” said Wolfgang, who said he began writing the music for the first album back 2013.
Wolfgang also hopes to be on the road even sooner to play the new Mammoth WVH music for fans.
“I’ll go anywhere that people will have me,” said Wolfgang. “Especially after being on lockdown for this long. I’m just itchin’ to get back out there.”
