Sammy Hagar says he and Michael Anthony are determined to keep Van Halen “live and alive” with this summer’s Best Of All Worlds tour. At a time when many legacy artists are under fire for using pre-recorded tracks, what you hear from Hagar and his band is all live.
“I can’t tell you how perfect this lineup is, how much fun we’re havin’, and how it’s live,” said Hagar during a recent appearance on Sirius/XM’s Trunk Nation. “Mike and I, we got this saying now. We say, ‘We keepin’ it live and alive,’ Ya know? We’re keepin’ it live and alive. We’re keepin’ the music alive, and we’re keepin’ it live, ya know? I just think, man, we’re doin’ something really special right now, and I couldn’t be happier.”
Hagar and Anthony are joined on the tour by Joe Satriani, Jason Bonham, and keyboardist/vocalist Rai Thistlethwayte. The band is set to perform in Cuyahoga Falls, OH Monday night at the Blossom Music Center with special guest Loverboy.
Along with the tour, Hagar discussed the recent Van Halen re-issue of For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, unreleased Van Halen tracks, and more in the interview which you can near hear all of below courtesy of Trunk’s podcast:
