Current TNA Wrestling champion Nic Nemeth is known for his flashy, 80s-metal look when he entered the ring. So it should come as no surprise to find out his number one fashion influence is the Diamond one himself – David Lee Roth.
“I usually say Mötley Crüe, Guns N’ Roses, Poison, Ratt, whatever but the absolute…my favorite one [is] David Lee Roth,” said Nemeth during a recent appearance on The Paltrocast. “DLR, no matter what, is the absolute. [He’s] very much the reason [why] I I got a lot of my outfit choices.
“Several people, unfortunately, compared me to Shawn Michaels a lot,” Nemeth added. “And the thing was, I didn’t grow up watching Shawn Michaels and I didn’t really watch Shawn Michaels matches. I just happened to be a smaller guy who was great at my job. And then I did a super kick and everyone goes, ‘Look, they’re exactly the same.’ It’s like, ‘I have one move, it’s the same. And now I’m just really leaning into it to piss you people off.’ So that’s fine. That was it. Seventeen out of 19 years as a heel. No big deal. So it was all like, ‘No. These pants are really based on [Mötley Crüe’s] Too Fast For Love album cover or David Le Roth’s outfits, you know.”
And Nemeth says he’d go full-on David Lee if he could get away with it.
“I couldn’t do the assless chaps,” he said. “As much as I thought about it. Two different pairs [I wore] had mesh over the cheek so I got one cheek and then some were banned from ringside permanently but, one hundred percent, yes. David Lee Roth is the guy for me.”
