Valerie Bertinelli says she’s proud of Alex Van Halen for writing his book Brothers.
“When I talked to Al last year — when he told me he was writing the book — I was super excited for him,” Bertinelli said during an appearance on the Drew Barrymore Show. “And we had a long conversation about grief and what you go through. I know that Al, he has gone through… he’s a very private man, and for him to do this is extraordinary. And to do it so beautifully — I’m so proud of you, Al. I’m so happy that you wrote your story.”
Bertinelli has her copy of the book but has yet to read it, knowing how difficult it will be.
“It’s going to be emotional,” Bertinelli explained. “It’s going to be very emotional, because I love these two men. They are good men and they are very complicated men. Congratulations, Al, going to be a bestseller.”
Bertinelli is happy that the book offers insight into Edward Van Halen the person and not the guitar hero.
“He was not that. He was a gentle, gentle soul who went through extreme trauma and Al did, too,” said Bertinelli. “I’m so excited to read it, it’s been sitting in my house now and I’m just shaking just thinking about it because I know them very well.”
