We want to keep up to date with the “Dave & Dave Unchained” Van Halen Podcast – their three most recent episodes are embedded below.
Episode #6.2: Sammy Hagar’s Apology and a VH/KISS Theory
Listen to “Dave & Dave Unchained – A Van Halen podcast: Episode #6 (part 2)” on Spreaker.
It’s rare that an apology is delivered within the Van Halen universe. However, former VH frontman Sammy Hagar broke new ground when he recently appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Network’s “Where Are They Now?” segment saying “I’m sorry” to the band for things he has said in the past.
In episode 6, part 2 of “Dave & Dave Unchained – A Van Halen podcast,” the new Hagar interview gets fully analyzed and motives are questioned. The Daves also continue their Van Halen tribute band series this time spotlighting singer Buddy Blanchard, who fulfills the David Lee Roth role in Romeo Delight, which is based in the Philadelphia area. Blanchard talks about how he closely studies and recreates the band’s musical and visual presentation plus he shares his thoughts on the VH catalog.
On top of all this, the podcast kicks off with a colorful discussion about one of the Dave’s recent backstage encounter with KISS bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons, which led to a conversation about Eddie and Alex Van Halen’s involvement in recording the 1977 KISS hit, “Christine Sixteen.”
Throughout the episode the Daves argue theories, rib each other and debate issues that involve everything Van Halen.
Episode 7: Van Halen 1981 vs. 1991 Throwdown
Listen to “Dave & Dave Unchained – A Van Halen podcast: Episode #7” on Spreaker.
It’s Rocktober folks and in celebration of David Lee Roth (Oct. 10) and Sammy Hagar’s (Oct. 13) birthdays, 1981’s “Fair Warning” is pitted against 1991’s “For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge” in an album battle for episode 7 of “Dave & Dave Unchained — A Van Halen podcast.” Not only are the records compared and contrasted in a full detailed analysis, but surprising similarities are also drawn between these two historic releases.
When we last left Hagar, he was issuing an apology to Van Halen via the Oprah Winfrey Network. Now he’s back in the press tossing out jabs at Roth and the band while promoting his new gig as vocal coach on “The Voice.” Hmmm…suspicious. We thought the Red Rocker was waving the white flag. Silly Sammy, digs are for kids!
Additionally, the Daves hash out VH’s controversial position on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time and an interview with singer Marq Torien of the Van Halen inspired-band, BulletBoys is thrown in for good measure.
Episode 8: Van Halen’s Midlife Crisis
Listen to “Dave & Dave Unchained – A Van Halen podcast: Episode 8” on Spreaker.
Dial the clock back to 1998 when Van Halen decided to hire Gary Cherone of Extreme to front the band hoping the third singer is a charm. The “Van Halen III” album underperformed, wasn’t widely embraced by fans but the tour was strong, for those who caught it.
In episode 8 of “Dave & Dave Unchained – A Van Halen podcast,” the Daves dissect this interesting time in VH history. Not only does the dynamic duo discuss the album track-by-track including the bootlegged bonus song (“That’s Why I Love You”) that was left off the record, the shelved live album and the aborted sophomore effort with Cherone. Additionally, an interview with Mr. Cherone looking back on his time in the band caps it off.
Of course, current Halen news is always on the menu such as Michael Anthony’s recent interview with Eddie Trunk and his induction into the RockGodz Hall of Fame, David Lee Roth name dropping Eddie Van Halen in his blog and on his podcast, EVH’s sentimental video for Mr. Holland Opus Foundation and a tidbit on Wolfgang Van Halen’s forthcoming solo album.
This power-packed episode is a Thanksgiving feast stuffed with VH goodness clocking in over two and a half hours – the largest “Dave & Dave Unchained” episode yet. So grab yourselves a “Dirty Water Dog” and recall the implosion of the Mighty VH!
