While Van Halen continues their hiatus after the 2015 tour, we at the Van Halen News Desk are always working on the website. Check out what we just pulled up from our archives…
Shown here is an incredibly rare poster promoting Van Halen’s second stop on their 1979 “World Vacation” tour, at the Jackson County Expo in Medford, Oregon, which took place this week in 1979. (Wikipedia incorrectly lists the date as March 28.)
The band sold 3,283 advance tickets at $7.50 each, plus another 1,698 on the day-of-show for an extra buck, for a total of 4,981 tickets sold out of the 5,469 capacity. Those lucky kids got to witness Van Halen’s first headlining show in Oregon! (What do you think those extra 488 tickets would be worth today, if we had time machines?)
At some point down the road, the Van Halen News Desk will have our extensive “1979 World Tour” page online. It will list all of the 1979 concert dates, including the missing dates that aren’t listed anywhere online, along with backstage passes, promotional flyers, statistics, never-seen photos, and even never-heard recordings from Van Halen’s first headlining world tour!
We will be doing the same thing with all of their tours, to whatever extent we can. It will be a truly incredible archive of the band’s early years, which will be completed one tour at a time, throughout the years to come.
But before we get started on our Tour pages, we’ll first complete our Album pages. We’ve got seven albums down, and eight to go! It’s a time-consuming process, but we love doing it. And we know you’ll love them when they’re completed, one by one.
Whatever the band does or doesn’t do in the future, we know we’ll make this place the best archive for Van Halen articles, photos, recordings, etc. for you all to enjoy. Something for fans to look forward to!
