This is the LAST WEEK that Eddie Van Halen’s 1978 touring rig and original “Frankenstein” guitar are on display in New York at the Metropolitan Museum of Art‘s “Play It Loud” Instruments of Rock & Roll exhibit.
Not wanting to miss this opportunity, young musicians Josh Gallagher, Jacob Deraps, William Lachance, and their friend Samuel Morin Paquet traveled to New York to see the iconic guitar in person. “24 hours in NYC and 28 hours of road trip with the lads,” described Josh.
“Gazing upon Eddie Van Halen’s Frankenstrat, the REAL DEAL yesterday was an experience akin to making first contact with aliens or something. To see the guitar responsible for being the source of so many of these iconic songs, tones and performances that changed all of our lives in the flesh, being close enough to almost breathe on it if the glass weren’t there was simply MIND BLOWING. The chills were TOO MUCH. SO MUCH HISTORY AND ART IN THIS INSTRUMENT, and it’s as much of a source of inspiration to me as the man who owns and created it! What an experience!”, Josh recalled.
Watch their one-minute video below. It’s sure to put a smile on your face.
Less than one week left! Musicians and music lovers will want to check out Play It Loud: Instruments of Rock & Roll, in person, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art now through next Tuesday, Oct. 1st.
In the exhibit’s Guitar Gods section, Eddie Van Halen’s 1975 “Frankenstein” red, black, and white guitar is in a glass display, where you can fully see both the front and back of the guitar that he took to with a chisel and a hammer to cut holes to make room for a Gibson pickup, and later painted—twice. Yes, this is Edward’s ORIGINAL Frankenstein guitar.
