This menacing instrumental, from the Diver Down album, was recorded when it was determined that the band needed an intro for the “Pretty Woman” video because the video ran longer than the length of the song.
Effects included Eddie twirling his tremolo bar and rubbing a can of Schlitz Malt Liquor beer against the strings as well as massive doses of feedback.
The working title for this song was “Jams IV.”
Dave: “I wrote that. We made [the “Pretty Woman” music video] with no consideration for the music at all. There was no story line that we tried to fit to ‘Pretty Woman,’ we simply made a movie like MGM, Hollywood style. None of this conceptual video stuff. When we finished the movie, it was about three minutes too long for the song, so I said, ‘We won’t cut any of it, we’ll write soundtrack music for the beginning. So we went into the studio and I played the synthesizer and I wrote it – it took about an hour to put that together. It was rerecorded for the album.”
